Windows 8/8.1 Lock Screen Monitor Sleep
Just a quick post to offer a tip for an issue that has quite literally been annoying the hell out of me lately. Starting with Windows 8, there is a timeout to put the monitor to sleep when the PC is at the lock screen. This timeout is a rather short 1-2 minutes, and on Windows 8 it never really bothered me.
What caused me to be bothered by this was the new lock screen slideshow feature in Windows 8.1. I was watching a demo of it and I was thinking to myself, well this is great but what the hell good does it do if your screen goes to sleep after a minute of this slideshow, so you’ll see 2-3 photos max and then boom, black screen. So I set out to find a solution to this, and thankfully I did thanks to the folks over at eightforums.
Here is a link to their tutorial on how to add this setting into your power options applet:
For those of you too lazy to click, here’s the contents of the reg file you need to merge to add this setting. (The setting will show up under Advanced Power Options):
